911 call released in church van crash

The Glades County Sheriff’s Office has released a 911 call made after a church van crashed early Monday morning.

One man who called the emergency line said he could see taillights in a ditch.

Caller: “The car went off the road into a canal. The man hollered at us or we wouldn’t have known… when we slowed down, he was hollering loud enough we could hear it.”

The man he was referring to had flagged him down.

The caller then pulled closer to the ditch and told the 911 operator his friend could hear people talking inside the van.

Caller: “He’s looking for a rope or something to help the people get out.”

He later described what his friend saw.

Caller: “The man said there’s probably some dead people in there.”

Dispatcher: “He’s advising someone might be dead?”

Caller: “Yeah.”
