FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A 9-year-old Fort Pierce boy was arrested Monday after police say the child brought a knife to school.
According to an incident report, the child showed a red pocket knife to students on a school bus and then brought the knife onto C.A. Moore Elementary’s school grounds, where school officials said he threatened to cut his siblings.
Fort Pierce police officers said they later determined the knife was given to the child by his mother’s ex-boyfriend when he was six years old. The mother told police her son never touched the knife and she hid it in her bedroom dresser, according to the report.
The mother also told police her son “couldn’t be trusted with a sharpened pencil and definitely not a knife,” according to the incident report.
According to a disciplinary sheet provided to police and given to the Department of Children and Families, the boy was involved in ten different incidents that required school counseling, including fighting.
The child was taken to a juvenile detention facility.
