Fort Pierce homeowner shot by a stranger while in his own yard; gunman sought

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – A man was shot in the arm when confronting an unidentified assailant in his backyard early Saturday, police said Monday.

At 6:30 a.m. police officers went to the 1300 block of Wyoming Avenue and learned that the resident had heard noises outside and confronted a man in his landscaping trailer. The assailant fired a gun. Police learned he may have been fleeing from an attempted robbery, according to police reports.

The suspect is described as 6-foot 2-inches tall and may have had short hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie-style sweatshirt over a yellow shirt, dark pants and tennis shoes.
