Fort Pierce man faces charges of robbing St. Lucie West gas station at gunpoint

A Fort Pierce man faces charges of robbing a gas station clerk at gunpoint Saturday night.

Port St. Lucie Police arrested James Earl Chambers, 23, of the 900 block of 21st Street, Fort Pierce, on Friday for robbing the Mobil Gas Station in the 1300 block of Northwest St. Lucie West Boulevard.

Police allege Chambers walked into the station at about 11:10 p.m. Saturday, aimed a black handgun at the clerk and demanded money. As the clerk was pulling cash from the register, the man went behind the counter and demanded Florida Lottery scratch-off tickets.

Police contacted a special agent with the Florida Lottery, who said one of the tickets was redeemed at a Fort Pierce store. Police reviewed the store’s surveillance and identified Chambers as the man redeeming the ticket.

Chambers is in the St. Lucie County Jail Friday night.
