Fort Pierce PAL hosts Pop Warner cheer camp

Preparing for the upcoming Pop Warner Football and Cheer season is a big deal in

Fort Pierce for the athletes, coaches and the community,

To get a jump start on the 2013-2014 season, the Fort Pierce Police Athletic League Pop Warner cheer coaches are hosting a 3-day Cheer Camp for children between the ages 5 and 15 on Saturday, June 29, July 20, and July 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each session is $10 per child and includes lunch. The event will be held at the Fort Pierce PAL Center, 903 S. 21st St., Fort Pierce.

During the day-long sessions, campers will learn basic fundamentals of cheer, dance, stunting and tumbling. This is a great opportunity for young athletes to learn about the sport, discipline, team work, and getting in shape.

Under new management and sporting a new mascot, the Eagles, formerly known as the Greyhounds, are hoping to take the program to a new level.

Many of the same coaches, who were involved with the Fort Pierce Greyhounds have joined the Eagles. Last year, coaches of the Fort Pierce Greyhounds Midget Cheer led the squad to a second place finish in the Pop Warner 1 Cheer and Dance Championships at the 25th Anniversary of the Pop Warner competition last year. Armed with tons of talent, squad produced a solid performance to give them the title of Second in the Nation!

Registrations for football and cheer will continue through July 1 at the PAL Center on Thursdays, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $125. It covers the uniform/equipment rental, secondary insurance, and 3 to 4 months of instruction. The registration fee for any other sibling (football or cheerleader) is a $100.

The following things will be required at the time of registration: payment of registration fees (payment options include cash, check, cashier’s check, or credit card), an original birth certificate, a photo of child, proof of residency (copy of phone bill or utility bill), copy of parent or guardian’s driver license and a current sports physical exam, using Pop Warner’s form, dated after Jan. 1

For businesses or individuals interested in supporting an athlete or team, sponsorships are available. Eagles Pop Warner is a family oriented, community-based volunteer run youth organization. By sponsoring a child or team, you are helping us fulfill our goal seeking to develop well-rounded young men and women who learn not only the fundamentals of football, cheer leading, and dance but also the importance of education in an atmosphere conducive to developing sound character all while having a good time!
