Fort Pierce Police Department taking applications for last 2014 basic Citizen …

The Fort Pierce Police Department will hold its final basic Citizen’s Academy for 2014 from May 5 to May 17.

Classes are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday evenings, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. There will be an opportunity to meet with various facets of policing and go on field trips to the 911 Emergency Operations Center, as well as the St. Lucie County Jail. Those who successfully complete the basic academy will have the opportunity to attend the advanced academy which will take place later in the year. Advanced academy students will have the chance to experience a more hands on approach to law enforcement through field trips to the gun range, driving range, and simulated scenarios.

Applications are available online at or by calling 772-464-1235. Completed applications must be received by April 30. Participants must be 18 or older.
