The Garden Club of Fort Pierce will host its MEGA Yard and Plant Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It’s a fun way to spend the day.
Be sure to get there early to get the best selection.
Dotty Greene, a proud member of the Garden Club, which is 50 strong, said the indoor yard sale has a variety of treasures, while outdoors, it will be selling locally grown plants.
Greene said this is an ideal time for gardeners to replenish items Hurricane Matthew blew away. Club members recently had a propagation workshop, so some of the items will be ready for this sale. In addition to the landscape bromeliads, varieties of sansievieria, philodendron, heliconia rhizomes, herbs and much more will be for sale.
Inside, the sale will include treasures donated byclub members. These include clothing, books, household items, yard equipment, artwork, furniture, tools, nautical and fishing gear, sports gear, electronics, holiday items and jewelry.
Proceeds will support the club’s community efforts.
The club provided two scholarships at $1,000 each last year, plus support for members attending educational workshops and conferences.
“Over the years, we have been supportive of Heathcote (Botanical Gardens) and especially their young gardeners program. This year, we have an additional project with school children that is just starting up,” Greene said.
The sale will be at the Garden Club’s clubhouse, which is the quaint, yellow building at 911 Parkway Drive, at the roundabout near Georgia Avenue and 10th Street in Fort Pierce. Additionally, since the club members have been hard at work improving the landscape for the historic building, it will be the perfect time to visit the place where the Garden Club of Fort Pierce has met for more than six decades. Plan a little extra time to enjoy the natural setting in Fort Pierce’s garden gem, Glidden Park. For more information, call 772-559-2602.
I echo Greene’s idea to “Think outside the mall shopping box and enjoy a shopping adventure in the park. Garden Club of Fort Pierce members love our neighbors. We hope everyone will have fun supporting our theme for the year: “Blooming Together!”
