September’s Charity Bingo at Santa Lucia River Club in Ballantrae was abuzz with avid bingo players who came out in support of the Fort Pierce Police Athletic League’s “Dancing With Our PALs” contestant Michelle Leckenbusch.
Leckenbusch, who hosted several fundraisers throughout the lead-up to the main event, sought out sponsors and practiced until her feet ached, took the stage Oct. 7 alongside her professional dance partner, Patrick Esper.
With increased enrollment and participation in programs such as Pop Warner Football and Cheer, Drama Dance, golf with The First Tee, boxing and more, each successful fundraising is vital for continued success. Dancing With Our PALs is one of two major fundraisers held each year, the other is the Police Officer’s Ball.
“The programs we offer provide kids with a nurturing support system that has a positive impact, not just on their futures but also on their life-skills,” said Executive Director Paul Pearson. “I receive many compliments about how well they are behaving when we are out somewhere.”
Thanks to benevolent women of Charity Bingo, Lynette Marraffa of Traxx Entertainment, Stephanie Giarraffa of South Forty LTD and Maria Bordonaro, food and beverage director at Santa Lucia River Club, all of the evening’s proceeds will help PAL continue its mission of filling playgrounds, not prisons.
