Spoiled chicken sours a relationship, leads to assault charge in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE —  Don’t mess with the chicken.

A 41-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man almost came to blows — with a cooking iron and a knife — over some spoiled chicken on Tuesday, according to police reports.

A bystander intervened just in time, the report said. Police arrived and took into evidence the iron, a knife and a vacuum hose. The man planned to use the hose in self-defense.

Palmer Curry, 41, of the 500 block of Douglas Court, was charged with assault of a person 65 or older.

Police classified the 7:10 p.m. incident a domestic disturbance.

According to an arrest affidavit, Curry was angry because she believed the man took chicken out of the refrigerator and it spoiled.

She became so upset she grabbed a cooking iron, wrapped the extension cord around her hand, raised it and said, “I will kill you,” according to police.

Out of fear, he grabbed the vacuum hose and knife. That is when a bystander separated them, the report said.

Curry is being held in the St. Lucie County Jail in lieu of bail.
