Apsen Dangren had 24 kills and seven digs to lead host Osceola to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-8) victory over Fort Pierce Central Wednesday in a Class 8A region volleyball quarterfinal.
Gabriela Hernandez added 40 assists and seven digs for the Kowboys (28-0).
“We were very consistent and showed a lot of maturity on the court,” Osceola coach Carrie Palmi said. “We knew their [Fort Pierce Central] tendencies and were able to stop them.”
Astra Weismore added nine kills and four blocks for Osceola, who will host Stuart Martin County Saturday in a region semifinal.
In other 8A action Spruce Creek also stay undefeated, topping Lake Mary 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-22). Lindsey Pliapol had 16 kills for the Hawks (27-0). Sara Swayze added 11 kills.
Winter Springs eased past DeLand 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-9). Savannah Vach paced the Bears (26-2) with 15 kills and three blocks. Sydney Vach added 16 digs and six aces. DeLand finished its season at 20-8.
Mikala Heidelberg came up with 14 kills to lead West Orange to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-16) sweep of Timber Creek. Ava Czyzewsky added six kills for the Warriors (25-3).
Lake Highland sweeps
Tristin Kott had 15 kills and 15 digs to lead Lake Highland to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-13) victory over visiting Mount Dora in a Class 4A.
“Our offense is really starting to connect,” LHP coach Erin Fleming said.
“We are peaking at the right time. In our last couple of matches, since the regular season, things have changed.”
The Highlanders (17-10) will travel to take on Ocala Trinity Catholic, a 25-10, 25-14, 25-17, winner over Trinity Prep on Saturday.
The Hurricanes finished 19-5.
Apopka edges Boone
Nicole Dominguez and Alexis Gosha excelled as Apopka (18-8) ended Boone’s season with a five-set victory in an 8A region quarterfinal on Tuesday.
Dominguez had a team-high 19 kills and 15 digs, while Gosha collected 12 kills, four aces and eight digs.
